I have Parkinson's Disease, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. I have set up this website to help me help myself and others with this dreaded disease. Donations to this website as well as all sales from this website help fight this disease. I am not glad I have this disease. I am not proud I have this disease. I do not wish this disease on anyone else at any time. I am fighting this disease with everything I can fight with but that is not enough.
I need your help too. I would like to ask you to donate to this wesite with as much cause as I have put into it which as of now is my entire life. But why just donate you ask. Well, it does help the cause to better people with Parkinson's disease and I'm fine with that. I need your support to this website every day. But I'm not getting the support this website deserves. Yes, this website gets many hundred of hits a day to look and enjoy the art and photography here but very few ever make a donation or buy prints. Make no mistake about it at all, I am here to sell my work and I would love to do that. That is my first priority. Please if you like something here and want to buy it by all means do so. The monies which go into this website do go to helping fight this disease. By chance though if you don't want to purchase anything here that is fine. I do ask in return if you have enjoyed my pages here to donate to the cause by going to the donation page and doing so if you don't purchase anything. Otherwise my work at this point is in vein. I don't make a living off of this page. I never have and to me that is sad but I do wish to make a difference with this website and that can only be done if you buy something or donate to the cause. Here is why I want to make a difference.
What is Parkinson’s Disease?Parkinson's disease (PD) is a chronic and progressive movement disorder, meaning that symptoms continue and worsen over time. Nearly one million people in the US are living with Parkinson's disease. The cause is unknown, and although there is presently no cure, there are treatment options such as medication and surgery to manage its symptoms.
Parkinson’s involves the malfunction and death of vital nerve cells in the brain, called neurons. Parkinson's primarily affects neurons in an area of the brain called the substantia nigra. Some of these dying neurons produce dopamine, a chemical that sends messages to the part of the brain that controls movement and coordination. As PD progresses, the amount of dopamine produced in the brain decreases, leaving a person unable to control movement normally.
The specific group of symptoms that an individual experiences varies from person to person. Primary motor signs of Parkinson’s disease include the following.
These areas of the brain correlate to nonmotor functions such as sense of smell and sleep regulation. The presence of Lewy bodies in these areas could explain the nonmotor symptoms experienced by some people with PD before any motor sign of the disease appears. The intestines also have dopamine cells that degenerate in Parkinson’s, and this may be important in the gastrointestinal symptoms that are part of the disease.
In addition to the cardinal signs of Parkinson’s, there are many other motor symptoms associated with the disease.
Most people with Parkinson’s experience nonmotor symptoms, those that do not involve movement, coordination, physical tasks or mobility. While a person’s family and friends may not be able to see them, these “invisible” symptoms can actually be more troublesome for some people than the motor impairments of PD.
Many researchers believe that nonmotor symptoms may precede motor symptoms — and a Parkinson’s diagnosis — by years. The most recognizable early symptoms include:

Some of these important and distressing symptoms include:
One last thought on the subject if I may. If you come to this website to just donate to the cause I am more than grateful to you for doing so but think of this also for a moment. If you are here to donate then why don't you take advantage of the website for it's original intent. Why don't you just buy something too and get some worthwhile art to put in your home or office or give as a gift. This way you can do two very wonderful things at one time. Either way you partisipate in the project you are helping the cause. I await your decision.
It has been a long time coming but my website is up and running now. I have priced everything on all pages so you can purchase what ever you would like to order. You can be sure contributions by way of a purchase will go to (PRO) Parkinson's Resources of Oregon. You can also go to the donation page and donate to the project to help do away with Parkinson's Disease. By doing either of these things on my website you will become a patron member of the Art Project I have established.
I do hope you will browse through the many fine pages of art and photography I have to offer in hopes that you will find something you would like to purchase. I also hope you would check out my little book Terrifically Twisted Tales and purchase it on Amazon.com. You can get the book for Kindle and in paperback form.
I have at this time also added a poetry page to the website in hopes that you would come and visit the website more often. The poems I have to offer plus many more will be in a poetry book coming out soon. I hope you enjoy what I have penned.
As time goes by I will add new art, photography, drawings and poems to the website for you to enjoy and be able to purchase.
Please come and enjoy the website to donate and purchase items as often as you would like. Also please tell others about this site and give out the website address as often as you would like. I receive many thousands of hits a month on my website from people all over the world. I have many who donate and purchase items for their homes and businesses as well as gifts for friends and family. You too can do the same and it is so easy to do. The website is completely protected and has very excellent security.
Examples of these fine framed works can be seen on the bottom of my main home page. Please go there and check out these fine displays.
I have also set up a Facebook page for The Art Project of Robert J Gehrke and hope you will visit it and enjoy my work there. From there you can also go to my website by clicking on the blue bar which says SHOP NOW! on the Facebook page. Doing so will bring you directly to my website.
Next year I hope to publish the first book of an adventure science fiction fantasy book series for older children, young adults and even regular adults. Look for it soon next year.
At this time I want to wish all of you who visit and join my project a happy Thanksgiving and a very blessed Christmas to come along with the best New Year you have ever had coming up soon. Peace.
As you can see my website is still under construction but the project is up and running and I ask you to visit my site for a purchase or a donation all of which goes to fight Parkinson's Disease. I plan on having the website done in a couple of weeks by finishing the posting of all of the items which will be on sale at that time. I will have a grand opening or a re-grand opening of sorts when everything on the site is ready to go. This website is a nonprofit website and donations and purchases go toward (PRO) Parkinson's Resources of Oregon. Please take some time and donate or purchase an item or two.
OK, so my website is under construction. While you are waiting watch this well made little six minute video and be amazed. Enjoy
As you can see my website is under construction. I have taken a very big step and put out all of my best prints and photographs for sale. But that is only part of the big step. My website now will accept payments from PayPal, along with all major credit cards. That means you can pick and order and then pay. Then you will receive the art works of your choice in a few days time. I am in the process of changing the website myself to have you be able to do all of this but it does take time. I have many things up for sale now and am adding to the list daily. If you see something you like just order it. If it doesn't work it just means that item is not yet ready to order. Don't worry it will be ready soon enough. Check back often and soon all items will be ready to order.
I don't know if you have noticed but I have lowered my prices substantially in hopes that these items may be more accessible to you and because I have my processes set up better now and that saves us all some money. The website is very expensive and donations are accepted to help keep the site up and going. I make no profit from the website and almost everything goes to keep up the site. All of this is part of my outreach Art Project. This website is for those with discerning art taste who like my work and want to purchase items for that reason.
At some point in time soon I hope I will put 80% of the profits toward a yearly donation to my Parkinson's Disease Project called PRO (Parkinson's Research of Oregon). The other 20% will continue to go toward the website. I will get no funds from the website. This is my outreach project for the rest of my life.
As many of you know I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease back in 2009. This disease will eventually take my life. Because of this I have decided to work for a cure. This is my cure for Parkinson's Disease Project. I hope you will participate in my project.
Thank you for your participation and patronage to my project.
I wanted to take a moment and give you all a few updates about my website and to thank those who have been so kind in your orders and your donations.
First of all I hope you have noticed I have added some 14 watercolor paintings to the website as well as two additional drawings all of which I had lost or misplaced I guess is a better word for it. I have found them and painstakingly photographed them and added them to the website for you to go and see for your total and enjoyment. Please note they are all also for sale as originals and as prints.
I am also in the process of finding and adding many tucked away photographs that have been kind of misplaced and forgotten about until recently. As I can I will add them to the website and let you know when this has been done. It will probably be in steps and not all at once.
I also want to say thank you to all of those who have ordered my works and also for those who have donated to my website. I am a simple man living on simple means and I have what I need but I am very happy to be able to offer these works of art to you on this website and by sale too. Your acceptance of my work any way you can is what helps me get through the day.
Eventually my wife and I will move from this wonderful little piece of paradise and set up home in a retirement center. It is only a matter of time because of both of our failing health. Not your worry. Life goes on. I just wanted to say thanks and to let you know I very much appreciate your love and support of my work.
Life will change greatly for all of us this year in November the day we cast our ballots for who we want to be elected for their next upcoming terms.
I hope I have your attention now.
You have the chance to be a part of the biggest change that will beset us all in this next November vote. I hope you do not take this lightly. This vote has so much riding on it this year and you can help to be the change we all want to see. If you are either a Republican, Democrat, or Independent you can put your money where your mouth is and make a difference by casting your vote this November.
You know of course that you will pick a new President this year and you see every day the news reports about who and what this is all about. That is important and we should take this very seriously. It is our duty as citizens of this great nation to do so.
Did you also know you have the power this year to change majorities in both the House of Representatives and The Senate. Enough seats are up for reelection that the outcome may indeed change vast amounts of laws in the near future,
Did you also know that the next president may have in his power the selection of the next Supreme Court Judge and that the congress can either go along with this or not depending on who is in congress at that time.
We the people have the power to get out all of the old blood and replace them with new blood or not depending on your vote.
I am asking you to take pride in your nation and share with all of us the great Democratic gift of the vote. And while you are at it take someone along with you who is registered to vote so that they can vote too.
It is your right as a citizen and your duty as an American to do so. You are all part of the bigger whole that in America the Great. Show your love for this country. Show your pride for those who would work for you in Government. Show your Veterans you honor them in this process too and go to vote this year and always. God Bless America.
By the way, If you are interested in my materials please go to the donation page of my website and get involved in this website by ordering something or by making a donation to this website. In return you will receive beautiful high quality works for your efforts and either way you will participate in this website. Part of the proceeds to this website go to (PRO) Parkinson's Resources of Oregon of which I am a member and a Parkinson's patient in real life.
This is the year of political banter. You hear it from the politicians. You hear it from your co-workers. You hear it from your neighbors. You hear it in the church pews. You hear it at the ball games. You even hear it at the grocers store. What do we do about it?
We Vote. We vote in the primaries. We vote in the general election. This year seems to be different though. It seems as if our very existence is in play this year and it very much could be. We need to take our duty of voting this year more serious than we ever have before. Much is on the line to be sure and if you don't vote you are casting a ballot for the other guy plain and simple. I do not want to tell you who to vote for and I do not intend to at all.
What I intend to do is let you know how important it is for you to not only vote yourself but also to get others to vote and bring someone to register to vote and to bring your neighbors with you to vote when the time comes. The importance of voting this year will bring about change in a great way no matter who is put into office.
Please remember you are not only voting for a President. You are also voting for Senators and House of representative members. This year who is elected into congress may be as important as who is elected President. It is your duty to think about this and act appropriately.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you consider and act on your thoughts.
Along with voting I would like you to consider a purchase of something you like on my website. You can buy something for yourself or buy a gift for a friend or colleague.
Please consider both very seriously and act with reason but act decisively.
