Welcome to my Poetry page on The Art Project of Robert J Gehrke. Please take a look and read the words from my head, heart, and soul. I will be publishing these poems into a collection in a book of Poetry soon The title will be called Poetry For the Common Man. The poems on this page will change every so often so please come back a check often for updates. I hope you enjoy the words I am sharing with you.
Like a mantra for the soul; brings your heart under control.
Take time and raise your mind and spirit; you need not worry or to fear it.
Your life may change and for the best; and common man may gain some zest.
So do your part and read each day; a rhyme or reason that may pay.
These poems may bring tranquil bliss; unwind and read them if you wish.
If you read a poem a day; better times may come your way
The Moon and My Heart
As the moon goes, so does my heart.
It waxes and wanes, and so does my heart.
I long to break the spell, but I cannot.
Its power is too great, and I am so weak.
As the moon goes, so does my heart.
The Spider
I once knew a spider so eloquent; her web she would weave in little time spent.
Morning she’d wake and take the web down; then build a new one and spread it around.
She’d dip and turn and spin and pull; covering the area with her self-made tool.
Inside her body an organ she’d use; would make a fine mesh to put out and fuse.
She’d weave designs on canvas so nice; an art-work outlandish but very precise.
They’d come to visit and check out her lair; stroll in to see the dazzle and flair.
She’d invite them in for crumpets and tea; they’d stay bewitched in wonder to see.
She shows them around each corner a sight; then wrap them up in webbing so tight.
She'd show them her parlor with fondness and pleasure; then eat them at her own unique leisure.
If ever I find her calling my name; I will not succumb to her cute little game.
I may consider a visit so daring; but then a swift exit without even caring.
It’s hard to turn down crumpets and tea; I may be stuck there ne’er to be free.
So if you spy a spider of such beauty; you may feel that it is your duty.
To come and surrender seems such a good reason; but find out later you’ve committed self treason.
Come visit me by the ocean
Come visit me by the ocean; come visit me by the sea.
Come visit me I am lonely; come visit me for tea.
We can walk the beach together; we can drag our feet in the foam.
We can walk right down to the ocean; we can scavenge for agates and roam.
We’ll search for oysters and mussels and clams; we’ll each get our limits and boast.
We’ll clean them and wash them together; for pan fry or sauté or roast
We’ll have clam chowder and bread with butter; we’ll have wine and spirits we can.
We’ll eat chocolate with caramel and salt; we’ll have scones with honey and jam.
We can search for driftwood and shells; or fish the waves for perch.
Come visit me by the ocean; and for our hearts we will search.
We’ll cuddle and spoon together; we’ll kiss and neck and make out.
We’ll have passionate sex more often; on bed, in bathtub, on chairs and the couch.
We’ll sit by the fire and reminisce; we’ll talk about present and past.
We’ll make plans for the distant future; we’ll draw plans up that will work out and last.
Come visit me by the ocean; come visit me by the sea.
Come visit and spend the summer; and stay with joy and glee.
And when the summer is over; and leaves turn crimson and gold.
We’ll part but make plans for the winter; when the season turns crispy and cold.
Until then my friend and lover; I await your arrival and hope.
A tear in my eye and my hand on my heart; I miss you so much and cannot cope.
Come visit me by the ocean; come visit me buy the sea.
Come visit me I am lonely; come visit and stay and happy we’ll be.
